German country western vs. Finnish heavy metal

Who will win? Hard to say, but something tells me that it is not going to be a pretty sight for any of the estimated 100 million people who will be watching this year’s Eurovision Song Contest on TV tonight. It never is.

This bloody and gory knock-down-drag-out festival of death is the biggest European pop music competition in the world and will kill anyone who says otherwise. As a matter of fact, the only European competitions that even come remotely close to this grisly cult phenomenon are the bloodthirsty games they used to hold in the Roman Coliseum. But the singing was even worse back then, I’m told. And they didn’t even have any country western.

Germany’s hopes are pinned on “Texas Lightning” this year. This German group with Australian front-girl will be singing American country western (sort of) in English in Athens tonight which is in Greece. After the body parts get gathered up, Finland’s “Lordi” will then enter the stage. I find they have an unfair advantage at this year’s competition, however, because they are allowed to wear body armor and heavy metal masks.

Send your children to bed early, if you have any. If you don’t, go to bed early yourself.

Lasst die Spiele beginnen!

1 - Sounds like a scary television show. I wonder if it's going to be available on Pay-Per-View so we can experience it in its full glory? (Comment this)

2 - I'm pulling for the Germans (and Australian). Somehow the idea of a German band called Texas Lightning singing C&W in English in a Eurowienie song contest is too bizarre to be true... and I kind of like the idea, even though I normally can't stand C&W. (Comment this)

4 - That was the funnest Eurovision I saw (I've seen about five of them in the last 20 years).

My two favorites to win (before the voting started) were Lithuania and Finland, in that order. I'm glad for FInland, and maybe now the next contest will have more real music in it. (Comment this)
