Christmas spirit getting really annoying

As if the repentant German thief who robbed a post office on Christmas Eve and then returned the loot a few hours later wasn’t enough (Okay, okay this isn’t Hollywood, he kept a third of it for himself), now the German under-20 hockey team handed the US team a Christmas present of its own. The punks.

Merry Christmas!

Oh boy, oh boy. I can’t wait for New Year’s Eve.

Schon wieder eine schöne Bescherung.

1 - Achtung-Achtung Hermann! That ran on the Reuters Odd wire yesterday - the New Zealand paper picked it up too - misspelling and all! Do a google search for Maroldswiesach and you'll get the correct spelling.

In a related vein:
When learning German I always confused the pronunciation of I-E and E-I words until someone in my German class gave me this simple tip: If the second letter is E, pronounce it long E. If the second letter is I, pronounce it long I. No teacher until then had been able to explain it to me quite so succinctly.

Enjoying your blog! (Comment this)

2 - Ian, Bingo. I is prononced "E" and E is pronounced "A" and I... can't take it any longer! At least their pronunciation is consistent (phonetic), what you can't say about English. (Comment this)

3 - We have an under 20-hockey team? Americans play hockey? I thought we had outsourced all that stuff after Lake Placid. (Comment this)
