Documentary film proves that the World Cup actually happened

Although the title is perhaps a bit misleading, “Deutschland: Ein Sommermärchen” (Germany: A summer fairy tale), a documentary film celebrating the German soccer team’s magnificent performance during the 2006 World Cup tournament provides conclusive evidence that the German nation actually felt good about itself for a few minutes this summer. To make matters even worse, the film will be getting a red-carpet premiere in Berlin on Oct. 3, the national holiday celebrating Germany's reunification. Bah pfui (how gross).

Many natives really believe that their team’s performance this summer moved the whole country, though obviously not far enough. In the meantime, everybody’s back to bitching and moaning and business as usual, of course. And most folks you might ask on the street today are probably starting to doubt whether the World Cup ever even really took place at all.

Some conspiracy theorists even go as far as to claim that Jürgen Klinsmann is actually a member of an ancient race of reptilian aliens residing on another plane of reality who have secretly controlled mankind since the dawn of time. I mean, that would explain why Germany didn't make it to the finals. And how else can you explain the fact that Klinsmann won’t be attending the premiere, huh? This guy has disappeared off the face of the earth and must be in one of those wormhole thingies right now. Or maybe even in Los Angeles.

Okay, okay. Sure it was just a fleeting moment and Germany is not a different country because of all of this. There will be no lasting impact. But the mood was special and maybe, just maybe, this director Herr Wortmann was able to catch some of it. That would be enough.

And then at least we know that it actually happened. And then we can get back to business as usual again.

Wie war Deutschland!

1 - It made a difference, probably not as big as the “Wunder von Bern”, but it’s still noticeable. Young, celebrating Germans showed old moaners, that it’s possible to love your country without wanting to invade Poland. If we could also decide to focus on the big picture and stop bickering, this day of unity would be joyful indeed. (Comment this)

2 - I'm looking forward to seeing the film sometime. I personally think that overall the WM still had a possitive impact on Germany. As for Klinsmann, if you look closely you sometimes can see a forked tounge flicker between his lips :) (Comment this)
